Each class starts with a short mindful meditation and some range-of-motion stretches to prepare for zesty challenges ahead. Meditating can help us weather life’s ups and downs with greater ease and less fear. Scientists have shown that meditation increases activity in the left prefrontal cortex of the brain, the area associated with positive moods, equanimity, and emotional resilience.
“The mind is the king of the senses, but the breath is the king of the mind.” –Hatha Yoga Pradipika
Restorative poses use gravity and props to subtly stretch the body and induce a relaxation response. As you learn to let your body truly rest on the ground and be held up by your props, you make space for breath to flow through you. Full, deep, natural breathing sends messages to the brain that you are safe, which deepens relaxation and enhances the healing potential of the practice. Blocks, blankets, strap, and bolster or pillows recommended.
